Belfast Dog Park

Dog Jamboree - Feb 2008

        2008 Activities of

    Friends of Belfast Parks:

LATE WINTER/SPRING:

April 26: Certified behaviorist Don Hanson of Bangor
presented a multi-media talk on canine behavioral
language and stress signals to over 70 people at the
Belfast Free Library.

April 6 - April Stool's Day. Eighteen members of
Friends of Belfast Parks and supporters picked
up almost 900 piles of dog feces at Steamboat
Landing, The Common, and Heritage Park. The
purpose of this event was to raise awareness of
the problem in Belfast of dog owners who leave
their dog's waste to spread disease, leach into
and contaminate Belfast Bay, annoy citizens
who get it on their shoes, and detract from the
beauty of Belfast.

March 27 - Quarterly Membership Meeting.
Agenda items included a financial report,
discussion of trying to save the McNally
property adjacent to The Common, spring
improvement projects, volunteers for
upcoming Arts in the Park, and a progress
report on the Belfast Dog Park.

February - FOBP held Puttin' On the Dog
Jamboree on February 16, 2008, at the
Belfast Boathouse. Events included a dogs
toys and treat swap, aromatherapy for
dogs, dog massage, dog caricatures by
Paula Fisher, a "Jackson Paw-Lick" inter-
active art with dogs, a visit from "Scooperman,"
a 50/50 raffle, a display of books about
dogs by Left Bank Books, etc. The event
yielded about $1200 toward the future
dog park.
